will FCP10 earse FCP 7 ?

Hi there,

I have browsed the long thread about FCP10.

May be I missed it...but will it be possible to have FCP10 AND FCP7.xxx runiing on the same computer ?

Also anyone knowing about a DVDSP equivalent coming out for bluray ?

Many thanks for replies

I don't see any reason you couldn't run a 'dual-boot' setup. (others may know better)

I currently run Tiger/FCStudio 1 on my internal MBPro system drive, then have an external enclosure with a clone of that drive on one partition and Snow Leopard FCStudio 3 on another partition.

IIRC, (and my experience has been) that booting from an external system drive must be connected via FW or USB.

Clone your current system drive, then create a new startup drive with two instances of OS. One with your current OS/FCP and the other with new OS/FCP-X.

If you're on a tower, I'd run these on different drives.

Can't speculate on DVDSP/BluRay.

EDIT - not sure if installing FCP-X would 'erase' FCP 7 or not.

Thanks Kevan

Yes indeed, I had thought I could do what you suggest or simply use two different disks...which may raise compatibility problems in the future....

This is why I was interested in knowing if 10 could be installed on the side of FCP 7 or not.

From what I read I believe so but I am not sure...

May be I should wait to know more about this new product

Thanks again

Upgrade versions of FCP have never overwritten previous versions. We ran the newer and older versions on the same systems for about two months after installation to make sure there were no weird compatibility issues. There never have been, not even back in the "FCPv3.5 Horror."

So, going on past experience, which is never an indication of future performance, I'd say Tom's correct, there will be no reason for FCPX to overwrite or erase (or earse) FCP7+.
