Is the iTunes Store down?

I open iTunes, it almost immediately adds the Downloads item to the Store section in de side bar, it says I there are 24 iTunes downloads available in the status bar, it says "Checking for downloads" up in the toolbar and then finally, after a long time, I get an error message saying "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection was lost. There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later." Is anybody else having this problem with the US iTunes Store?

I also have the same problem. I was in the process of downloading a rental movie from the itunes store. Now it is gone and I am not able to "check for available downloads" or even view my account. I did some research trying to figure out the problem. I cam across this old thread from 2007. Apparently they had many similar issues then. I ran through the "remedies" throughout the thread and none worked: proxies, networkinterfaces, modem reset, software update, keychain assitant, etc. None worked. Hopefully the iTunes Store is temporarily down at the moment. At this point I will wait. If anyone comes across a solution for this problem, or hears of a statement from apple concerning the issue...please post.

Same here on my 3GS, for a moment I panicked thought something was wrong with my phone but when I opened iTunes on my laptop and encountered the same problem I knew something is up.

Awhile back ago I had a similar problem and fixed it with changing my DNS servers. Now it doesn't work anymore, although they were two slightly different problems to begin with.
