kernel panics after erase and install

I am getting my white iBook G4 ready to donate. It was behaving fine until I did an erase and install from the original DVDs (Tiger). Now almost every start up and shutdown (and other actions) are met with Kernel Panics.

I have run the extended AHT which found all hardware to be OK. Repairing permissions didn't help. Update to 10.4.11 didn't help.

Any ideas for the next step? The Apple Store geniuses won't help because Mac is too "old".

Thanks!

Jeff
