I'm using the cord it originally came with.

I've tried 6 different USB ports, on two different computers. Both laptops were on (not in sleep mode) and plugged in.

While the ipod is plugged in, it displays the red battery charging symbol. (This screen http://tinyurl.com/3b33wnb ) If unplugged, it is completely unresponsive.

I've tried resetting it while holding down power/Home. If unplugged, it does nothing. If plugged in, the battery charging screen flashes white, goes blank, then comes back. No apple screen. I've tried restoring it by holding the Home button, then plugging it back in. The battery screen appears but nothing else happens. It does not show up in iTunes.

As you can see from above I've already tried most of the troubleshooting mentioned in other posts. Is there something I missed?

There is no water damage, I haven't dropped it, etc. I've had it for less than a month. This is the second time it has mysteriously stopped working like this. There is no reason for it to be malfunctioning. This is my first apple product and so far I'm disappointed.
