Removing Bluetooth Device

How would I go about deleting phones off my bluetooth file exchange list? They are phones that I no longer need to connect to.

If you are asking how to remove the pairing of mobile handsets or other devices from your computer, simply do this:

• launch the System Preferences application
• select the Bluetooth pane
• press the Devices tab
• highlight the device you wish to remove in the scrollable Bluetooth Devices list
• press the Delete… button to the right
• confirm the deletion by pressing the Delete button in the confirmation dialog which appears

Thank You but what I am trying to do after those steps (which work great) is try and remove them from this list:

They just stick around and have been searching for answers how to remove them from showing up on this list.

I'm curious - have you trashed either of these Preference files?

• com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
• com.apple.BluetoothFileExchange.plist

Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Preferences

No I didn't..

I am sure this probably is the cure. 🙂

My machine has had to go back to the shop again, I guess I'll try it out when I get it back.

Alternatively, you install the Apple Xcode Tools of Mac OS X v10.4 suppling a tool to delete these cached devics:
Mac OS X > Developer > Applications > Utilities > Bluetooth > Bluetooth Explorer > Menu Edit > List cached divices or somthing like that – not in Mac OS X right now.

Please note that the Xcode/Developer tools require a certain amount of disk space.

The correct path is:
Mac OS X > Developer > Applications > Utilities > Bluetooth > Bluetooth Explorer > Menu Utilities > Show Device Cache

However, just tested this and it does not work. Then each deleted device of the cache will show up as Unknown Device in Apple's Bluetooth Device Selection dialogs. Worse than before. Do not use "my" trick.

Same here...pretty annoying having old devices hanging around-you would think there would be a simple way to do this.

Try the tip of Michael Lafferty or better change the view of the File Exchange application to your favorite devices etc. For this use the to popup menus at the top of the list.

I am having this same problem, tried deleting these 2 files, emptied the trash, and the old items are STILL in my Bluetooth "browse device" list!

Can anyone help me remove them?

EDIT: I guess I just simply needed to restart the program and give it a second, lol. PROBLEM SOLVED. Thank you! 🙂
