Being a new iPad 2 user and previously only having used a PC, how do I free up memory on the iPad? What is the Cache as they call it and can the files on it be deleted without serious consequence? Any thing else that can be deleted?

You can only delete what you put on it i.e. apps, music, films, photos, documents - you cannot delete anything that comes pre-installed. You can empty Safari's cache via Settings > Safari
Am I correct in assuming that the "cache" is the Apple term for temporary Internet files and cookies?
Not just Apple's, but yes ... However, these are likely tiny compared to the total space on the iPad. You can't free any memory off the preinstalled set-up: as the royal penguin said, you can just delete itmes you've chosen to put on. Th ones that take up most memory are video files and high graphics apps (advanced games such as Infinity Blade, comics readers if you download multiple issues, etc).
Guys - what about the "other category"? If have taken off apps, video, photos' but still have 7GB of "other" (not specified what that is) eating upo my memory. How do I find that out and take that off?
