Mail will not launch.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.3)
Launch the Console application and enter "Mail" (without the quotes) in the search box. Try to launch Mail again. Post any messages that appear.

It's a corrupt SQLite database, but I don't know which one. Let's go for the easiest option first. Delete the file Library/Caches/com.apple.mail/Cache.db from your home folder and try again.
Thanks...found the folder and the file. Deleted. Restarted. Mail still won't launch.
In Console, navigate to ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter and post the most recent Mail crash log.
Doesn't appear to have a recent log...here is what I found at the bottom of the log...

That doesn't help. Rather than continuing with a long rigmarole that may never get anywhere, I suggest you make a fresh start with your Mail setup. Move the folder Library/Mail and the file Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist in your home folder to your Desktop. Launch Mail and set it up as if for the first time. You should then be able to import your old mailboxes (File > Import Mailboxes...) or restore the messages from Time Machine, if you use it. It will take some work, but I don't know of an easier way. Back up everything before you start.

Could it have been from mail containing .doc or .exl files?

Once you've imported the messages, you can delete the old files.
I used the Migration Assistant to move my complete system from my Macbook Pro to my iMac. All applications worked except my mail app. It would indicate failure to launch each time I tried. I threw it away and downloaded a new mail app from my Install disk (10.4). Now when I try to launch mail I get a dialogue box that says "You cannot use this version of the application Mail.app with this version of Mac OS X." Software update indicates everything is up-to-date. Any ideas?
Your problem is not related to the OP's. I suggest you post your question in the 10.4 (Tiger) area.

I was having the same problem. I moved the Mail folder to my desktop, and the pref file as well. What option should I use for the mail import? Import from Mac Mail or the .mbox, or is it the same?

After I migrte to Lion my mail App does not work. I tried to do what ou suggested but what if in Lybrary/Preferences tha file com.apple.mail.plist does not exist 😟 What should I do ??????
