i have deleted alot of apps from my iphone but they still seem to be taking up memory space, i now only have 1GB of apps but on the status bar when plugged into computer it says i have 6.5GB of apps which i dont, how do i free up this memory as i am running out of space

Did you remove the apps direct on your iPhone, or via the iTunes sync process?
If the former, have you synced your iPhone with iTunes since doing so?
If yes and the apps are in your iTunes library, reselect the apps under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync to reinstall the apps. Follow this by deselecting the apps under the Apps tab followed by a sync to remove the apps from your iPhone to see if this makes any difference.
If not, the next step will be restoring your iPhone with iTunes.
