Premiere Pro CS5 on 13 inch Macbook Pro

Has anyone had success running Premiere Pro CS5 on the 13 inch Macbook Pro? It seems to meet almost all minimum specs except screen resolution (1920x800 vs Adobe's recommended 1280x900). That has me worried.

Before any says that it is not powerful enough to run CS5, try and understand where im coming from. Im running Premiere Pro CS4 and editing full HD by using proxies on a 5 year old HP. Im not looking for anything blazingly fast. I just wanna run the software and cut some video.

Amazingly, performance on a 2009 MBP is acceptable, though not blazingly fast, with Premiere. But prepare for a long wait to load - 90 seconds - before you start editing. Once it starts up, the software is smooth, and editing is surprisingly fast.

I'm considering investing in a SSD from OWC, which dramatically speeds up boot times - and I mean dramatically. But if you simply want to do your editing on the fly, Premiere does work, but obviously not as quickly as Safari, which takes only a few seconds.

Thank you very much Poikkeus. Can you please confirm that you are refering to the 13 inch 2009 mbp? I know that it will run on previous generation 15 and 17 inch MBP, but I want confirmation for the 13 inch model.

Installing an SSD in the optical bay will be my first upgrade, along with replacing the HDD with something 7200rpm. That should really help along editing video.

Thanks also for the comment k3ysi, but I am mostly interested in Premiere Pro. The 13inch MBP actually meets the minimum specs for photoshop CS5 (1280x800), but for some reason though the minimum specs for premiere is 1280x900.

That probably means there is at least one dialog box or palette in the program that has a lot of controls in it and is 900 pixels tall. It is probably a dialog that is not in Photoshop, which is likely since the programs are so different. If it is because of a large dialog, there is a chance that some buttons like OK/Cancel may be cut off and hidden at the bottom.

I have read about this happening in Photoshop when people try to run it on PC netbooks that have 1024x768 or shorter screens, some of the bigger dialogs get cut off.

Just for comparison, Final Cut Studio requires 1280x800. Video editing just needs so many panels that you need a big screen. Even with Photoshop if I was at home I would always plug my MacBook Pro into a nice big desktop monitor. You gotta be able to spread out those windows.
