Time Machine and My Book World
I am baffled...... and neither a Mac expert.....
I have been trying for hours to configure my hard drive (Western Digital My Book World Edition) to Time Machine and have tried a number of things looking at the tips on various forums
In summary
-The MyBook World is connected to my router. I tried connecting directly to mac via ethernet and did not get any further
- I can see the MyBookWorld in Finder under shared devices and clicking on it shows both a 'Download' and 'Public' folder
- When I use Time Machine I cannot see this hard drive when I click on Select Backup Disk it does not recognise this external drive
I have done the following things
- In Finder I have clicked on Go and Connect to Server. I have done this for each folder
- I have looked in Utilities and disk utilities and I cannot see the hard drive
- Within System Preferences / Network I am connected to Airport
- I have tried the following terminal command and pressed return and nothing happened: defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
- Having lost all hope I installed the WD software and that seems to have made the problem worse: Within Time Machine I can't select 'Select Back Up Disk'> having uninstalled it now it seems tohave made no difference
I am not expert in anyway shape or form, so if anybody can help I would be very grateful
Kind regards
