Sharing iCal events with others (iPhone or iPad)

I just switched from the BlackBerry to the iPhone 4 and I also picked up an iPad 2.

With my BlackBerry when I added a new calendar event, i was able to invite an attendee, thus sharing the event with others via email. This was particularly helpful when coordinating school and sporting events for my kids with my wife.

I have not been able to figure out a way to share iCal events with anyone from either the iPhone or the iPad. My wife can still share from her BlackBerry and when I get the invite, I can import it into iCal as an event for either iPad or iPhone, however that too is limited, because I can't seem to edit the event after it is imported.

Does anyone know events from iCal can be shared?

If not, does anyone know a good iPhone/iPad app that allows you to share events?
