Does anyone else find most Amp sounds completely unusable?

I use the iRig and all sounds are muffled, muddy, lacking definition and generally unpleasant regardless of what amp/setting I use. I resort to increase treble and lower mids and bass but still the sounds are not very usable.

At first I thought the issue might be with my guitar (tone pot or something), but I have connected three diefferent guitars and the result is the same.

In contrast the Amplitude app gives me very good and clear tones. But I can't use that to record in Garageband (or can I?)

Anyone have any idea as to why the amps sound so muffled and muddy?

Hi, I would suggest trying different setting with the gain, bass, treble, mids, and presence. I actually find all the models very usefull and very practical to use. Your sound depends on so many things though. I am going from my Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro to an Apogee One to my MacBook Pro and the sounds are amazing. In fact, this is exactly the setup that I am taking traveling with me.

Again, your signal chain is very important. If you have a cheap guitar with cheap pickups, it doesn't matter what goes after it, you will not get a good sound. Trust me, I was there for years trying to get a good sound with an Epiphone... I upgraded to a Gibson Les Paul and it changed my inspiration.

Remember too, that not everything has to be at 10 or at max levels, you have to experiement and get to those sweet spots.

Personally, I stick to the VOX and Marshall simulators since I like those tones the most and the guitars sound amazing. I then do minor enhancements with the EQ and effects after the fact.

In sumary, experiment and don't give up. I know it can be frustrating, but I have heard great recordings out there with these amps. Good luck!

Hi,

I had similar problems with disappointing tone etc when I started with GB'09

First back off the input gain (Apple logo preferences sound) This makes an enormous

Use a good quality audio interface (I use an Apogee GiO)

I use a pair of Roland 30 monitors

The GB presets are good for demoing the sounds but most need a lot of tweaking. I now use both Guitar Rig 4 and Amplitube 3 stand alone or as inserts in GB when recording - sounds fantastic - If you get either of these apps then it's easy to install them as plug-ins in GB.

Have fun
