Reformat my disk?

Hi.

I can't use my time capsule on my computer.

When I set it up from the beginning, after restarting it correctly, it just says: "This unit and its network setting are temporarily inaccessible. Would you like to continue?"

If i answer "Yes" it takes about 20-24 hours before it says "Backup was unsuccessful"

Then a box comes up with:

Disk repair:

The disk "Backup of Pernilles Macbook" could not be repaired by this computer. It will be available for you with limited functionality. You can backup your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible.

So do I have to save ALL my stuff on a usb? Because my time capsule does not work? And then reformat my disk? And how do I do that?

Thanks in advance.

first, let's clarify a couple of things:

  • Time Capsule is a hardware device
  • Time Machine is software

are you using a Time Capsule as the destination for your Time Machine backups ?

if so, see below ...

no !

the error says The disk "Backup of Pernilles Macbook" could not be repaired by this computer - it has nothing to do with your Mac's internal HD.

try repairing the sparsebundle on the TC using the instructions in this user tip.
