How to improve sound quality of my speaker

I just bought a mini speaker ( moshi - bassburger ), tested, the music can be played very loud but the sound quality is 'bad', like there's some 'noise' even I don't play anything, just plug in. I bought it because when I play music on my mac, I feel that my ears hurt a little because it is so close to me so I needed something far from me to play the music. Now I sometimes use the speaker but I always prefer the 'sound quality' played straight from my mac 😟 Does anyone know is there a way to improve the sound quality after connected to the speaker? Can I change any settings in system preference?

The best thing to do is to get an apple speaker but if you want to keep using this one.

But another thing you could do is go to system preferences > sound > output. You might have additional settings there but probably not much.

The place that should have it is the Audio Midi Setup in the Applications > Utilities folder

in the Audio MIDI Setup you might want to change a couple settings and just see how it sounds.

Yeah no wonder it sounds rubbish:

Technical Specifications:

Speaker : 2w, 36mm

Sensitivity : >80db

Frequency Response : 280Hz - 16kHz

Battery : Lithium-ion, 300mah. DC 5V

Charge Voltage & Time : USB 5V(+/-.5V) approx 2.5~3hrs (laptops maybe longer)

Dimensions : 52mm diameter X 32mm(closed) 45-55mm (open)

Weight : 52g (cable not included)

$35

If you really like sound, why not invest in a decent setup? External soundcard & monitors?

I have a Hercules GameSurround Muse XL Pocket LT3 connected to a 5.1 Altec Lansing speaker system. More expensive than a plastic box, but not outrageously so. Set it up under Audio MIDI Setup for multichannel 5.1 sound, and then play any movie through VLC video player (not Apple's own player cos that doesn't support 5.1).

Experience full surround sound!

Midi is not sound, it is computer instructions or 'events'. The cables you use transfer the audio can be important in professional setups. However if you are using a small pc speaker, it will make no noticable difference. If you want better quality sound, buy better quality products.

The only thing you can do is probably look for a graphic equaliser for mac.

Hi

You can only select surround sound if you have the appropriate audio hardware plugged in to the computer. The Hercules GameSurround is one option. It's plugged into the USB socket and then the 5.1 speaker system is plugged into the Hercules.

Once you're into Audio Midi Setup, if you can't see the Audio Setup window then click on Window > Show Audio Window. Now click on the audio hardware that supports multichannel sound from the list on the left. Select Output, then change to 6 channel 16 bit. Now click on Configure Speakers and Multichannel, now select 5.1 Surround from the combo box. Click on Apply etc.

You might also need to go into System Preferences > Sound and select the new output device for output.

To play a movie with surround sound, use the VLC player, and you also need to select the output device. Don't try using Apple's DVD player because it doesn't support surround sound.

Set up is a bit of a pain but the result is worth it.
