Hi Mark,

If it's what I'm thinking of, it's a Windows file. Are you running Windows? If so, boot into it and check: c:\program Files (x86)\AVG\ or similar. avgcmgr has also been used as a malware disguise before . . . .

I too am having the same problem- I have a WIN7 partition I rarely use via Parallels6. I noticed my CPU menu meter was pegged-and AVGCMGR was the culprit. Found the file in Program files-deleted and I am still having this problem.

As far as Mark1979 not even running windows....I would assume removing the program file wasn't the fix?

What I posted was pretty close to the extent of my knowledge on that, but your assumption certainly sounds correct to me. 😉 Have you done a Spotlight search for invisible and system files?

Hmmmm. Do a Spotlight search and set it to search for both system files and invisible files of that name and variants. If it's a variant and you're not sure about it, best not to delete it until you find out what it is. OS X has some very strangely named files.

Heres what I posted on another thread, I was able to solve the problem:

I had AVG's linkscanner for Mac installed- Here's what I have done this far.

1. Used App Cleaner to get rid of AVG LinkScanner on Mac.

2. Found the avgcmgr Preference File in WIN7

3. Was still getting the process in OS X using all of my CPU.

4. Realized that I really didn't uninstall the AVG thing on my mac- used their(AVGs) uninstaller

5. Been [All Day]15-20 mins now and it hasnt started the avgcmgr process

I went to the site and downloaded the LinkScanner DMG, mounted it and then just opened the uninstaller. My iMac has LinkScanner with XP on BootCamp-didn't see the problem there. I did a spotlight search for hidden files, none of them made any correlation, I did drag a pref file to the trash-but I'm pretty sure I still had the problem-until I actually got rid of WIN7s pref file, and deleted LinkScanner from OS X- It was still there. Good Luck.

I think this would solve the problem. Just download the linkscanner for free from any website(cnet), open the link and you can see a unistall in the pop up window where usually the install window appears. Just press uninstall, it wil ask to closes the linkscanner, mozilla if open and clears the completely crap. This worked for me I had no problems there on.
