Help!!! Invalid file format

I am trying to attach a resume to an on-line job application. It let's me choose the document, but after it says that it's and "invalid file format". I am assuming that it needs to be put into a jpg format, but am unsure how to do that. Can someone please help me?!

Select the file, press command-i, then in the window that appears go to Name and Extension. Under that drop down menu you will see the text box and you will see the name of the file along with an extension (example: .pdf, .docx, etc.). Anyways, take off that extension and add .jpg if that is what you want. Make sure that there is only one period there.
