I have Mac OS 10.6.7 and the latest iphoto. How can I import RAW files from my Nikon D5100?

iPhoto doesn't support RAW formats. You'll have to open them in Finder to put them on your computer.
You can use Image Capture to do this.
Run software update and be sure everything is up to date -
The support site is down right now but I am pretty sure that the D5100 is supported directly by iPhoto - you should be able to directly import to iPhoto
TD has a D5000 I believe - he is in Ireland so will be along around midnight west coast time - he will know for sure

Nikon Transfer works superbly to transfer NEF files from my Nikon D3100. They are supported in Preview (5.0.3) and iPhoto (9.1.3) in 10.6.7. Image Capture will also work to transfer NEF from the Nikon.
iPhoto does support Raw formats and supports exactly the same formats as Aperture.
Iphoto 11 with Digital Camera Rw update 3.7 supports the Raw from the D5100. So run software update.
