airport icon not showing in the menu bar since Os 10.6.7 update???

Am I alone???

I have an 8 month old Macbook pro, 2,4 Go Intel core duo processor. 4 go memory. It's not my first mac, I grew up with them. They're the only computer I ever bought. But this glitch is weird and I know if there's a place to ask a question it's here.

Since the 10.6.7 update (today, after dinner) I only connect with wifi, my airport icon has been missing from my menu bar. I have tried going in my preference system, in vain. In click the "appear in the menu bar option" but when I go to click apply, it's like grey, it's not clickable. ??? what can I do? Has anyone encounter the same issue? I have search the boards but haven't found a solution for this issue. It's a pain in the ****. I can connect to the net now, I was able to at least fix it after 30 minutes of trying to figure out what the heck was wrong...

I'm open to try any and every solution.

TIA

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Couple things come to mind.

You can try deleting the plist. com.apple.systemuiserver.plist

Found in your username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist

Then restart, or in terminal copy and paste"

killall SystemUIServer

or edit the plist and add to the list of <key>menuExtras</key> this line:

<string>/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/Airport.menu</string>

Then in terminal copy and paste:

killall SystemUIServer

Where is the menu extra key? I'm trying to add what you suggested but I can't find it?

I did delete the first thing the plist. :-) I'm going to do the seconf thing because the first thing alone. didn't work.

Forgot to say that my trash isn't emptying either since the update. I didn't know before I tried to empty it when I deleted the

com.apple.systemuiserver.plist

So the update messed up 2 things, the problem in my preference system and the trash issue. ??? (For the trash I'm downloading "trash it" as suggested with some reading I just did here).

Anyone else having soo many peoblems with this **** update? I hate it.

I did removed it and did what you said but it did not work ??? I re-started (the first time)

when I re-started and realised that it did not work, I removed it, and did the terminal command.

as for theTrash, I had already find the link but I tried downloading the 2 program in the link "trash it" and the other one but both won't load when installed. ???? Maybe it's due to the numerous bugs since the 10.6.7 update ???

I correctly installed TRASH IT, followed the instruction but could not make it functionnal. :-( It would NOT start. I would click "open", right click "open" NOTHING.

grrrr. I don't know what to do. I'm desperate. I need the computer to be finctionnal because I'm doing full time classes this summer at my university. This is my tool.

Do you have a back up of your system, Time Machine or Bootable Clone?

Just go back to your previous system and reinstall the combo update for 10.6.7.

If not reinstall the Combo on top of what you have. No harm done.

This can side step issues with the Delta Update thru SoftwareUpdater. Advised to repair permissions before and after combo update.

I do have a backup (time machine) from a month ago (and another one from AFTER the update), I'm going to email myself the document that I don't want to lose and go back to the previous system with the backup and check everything works, then install again the update, using the link you gave me.

Thanks for everything. I'll update on this thread when I'm done. :-)

You are amazing.
