Flush the DNS cache in Mac OS X Leopard

Can anyone tell me the benefits of the following:

==

To flush the DNS cache in Mac OS X Leopard:-

- type lookupd -flushcache in your terminal to flush the DNS resolver cache.

ex: bash-2.05a$ lookupd -flushcache

- Once you run the command your DNS cache (in Mac OS X) will flush.

I am on BB with sustained 8 to 9 meg speed. I found this item about flushcache on my hosting service information page.

When and why would you carry out this intruction and what would be the result?
