Yes. ios and OSX are two different operating systems.
Yes, as they are not the same platform at all.
If you had a movie on vhs and wanted to wacth the same movie on a dvd player, then you would have to buy it again on dvd.

From what I understand they have made it a univeral app, so if that is the case then you could just update the app and sync to the iPad.
Universal applies to the app working on ipad and iphone, not your computer and ipad.
Yes. Keynote and Numbers for your Mac runs on the Mac OS X where the same apps that run on your iPad run on the iOS.
Two different operating systems.
Yes - the Mac (OS X) versions do not work on the iPad (iOS). You need the versions from the iTunes App Store for the iPad, which you will need to pay for
Yes. The iPad apps are different from the Mac applications.
I can't address Keynote and Numbers but Pages has been one major disappointment. I'm unable to properly view Pages docs that I created on the Mac! Apple support Senior Advisors have confirmed a compatibility issue.
@roam. Not sure how you saw that as I never posted that, I reread and saw the OP was talking about his macbook pro
So what do you guys know about Ipad applications in correlation with Iphone applications. I have an Ipad and an Iphone but I'm wondering, if I purchase Pages on my Ipad, do I have to re-purchase it for Iphone?
Pages is a "universal" app. There is no requirement to re-purchase for the iPhone.
Purchase once and use it on all IOS devices that you own.
It will work on both, so you only need to purchase it once. Pages is a 'universal' app i.e. it has a '+' symbol against it's description in the store, which means that it is designed for both devices (it has processing within it to detect what device it is on and will tailor it's display accordingly). All iPhone apps will work on the iPad (well nearly all, there are some iPhone apps that require, for example, full phone capability so won't work on the iPad). Apps that are designed specifically for the iPad and it's larger screen will not work (or install) on the iPhone.
The way to be sure is to look at the left hand side of the app's description page in the store where it will say what it is designed for. But once you've bought an app you should be able to install it on multiple devices.
So, I have been using Pages on my iPhone and iPad for a while now, and I decided I wanted to work with my documents on my Mac. Likely similar to your intial reaction, @mills, I started Googling for: "pay twice for pages mac"
I see the herd of responders that feel smug stating (paraphrased): "Duh, iOS and OSx are two completely different platforms" etc.
Yes, the operating system on an iPhone and on a Mac are certainly different. But... that isn't a valid response to your question.
Here's my reply:
Yes, it appears Apple did not expose the Pages app (iOS) via a traditional website (like Evernote does, for example) or allow you to have the iOS app functioning on your OSx machine. And, yes, Evernote is not a word processor, I know... so, leveraging more powerful resources on a desktop can be a legitimate for buying a "beefed-up" version of Pages. BUT... the reason why the Pages app must be purchased once for your iOS devices, and once for your OSx devices to even just view your docs.

If you had a Windows machine that had MS office on it, could you install that same software on a Mac without installing Boot Camp on another app that would allow you run Windows on the Mac? I think not. If you approached MS support about it, I would bet anything that they would tell you that Windows and OS X are different operating systems and if you want the Mac version, you would have to purchase it again.
You are responding to a thread from 2 years ago. iwork for icloud has been announced as well.
@vazandrew: I see that iWork appears to be a bundle between three utilities... but, does is somehow allow me to view and modify my Pages app data on my Mac in any way without paying $19.99 ?
And, as far as the "2 years" comment... I stumbled upon this post today because it was obviously still relevant for me.
@Demo:
Your analogy is not pertinent to this discussion. MS Office (which is desktop software) is only for the desktop.
Pages is a mobile app, that accesses and modifies its data over the Internet via HTTP. It seems likely you don't understand this critical part of the discussion. I don't mean to offend you, but that is the reality.
I actually used a pertinent analogy. Evernote. If want to try another anology with me, pick a mobile application.
