    Hi Tom, it looks like your a long time member and I'm new to this forum.

    The truth of the matter is this, I have worked with Apple for more then 20 years off and on. That long time service does bring with it a understanding on how Apple thinks. I do not have any inside info. But Tom, with your long time experience , do you really feel that your on the right track. As the old saying goes,

    Nonsense.   It is just plain foolish for users to not let Apple know they want these services continued and what kind of damage it will do if they are not.

    Agreed.  I think Apple's track record regarding homepage, among other things, makes it particularly important for users to let them know how disturbing it is to lack better information about what is going to happen with the current MobileMe hosting services.

    Agreed Tom… now is the perfect time to tell Apple how important their "old" services are to some of us, and how much we have come to rely on them. 


    We are constantly told that "Apple doesn't read these boards"… so what does a little 'vinegar' matter?  


    I do agree… ranting, tossing a hissy fit, is not going to get you very far… but a critical opinions should be exactly what Apple would "like" to see… and what better place for us, as clients, to unite and make our opinions known? 


    Several times on this board I have read about issues other's have experienced, or perhaps wants, that I had NOT experienced yet when brought to mind I thought good ideas… and taking from this board I submitted to Apple what I thought about the various issues other's had brought up.

    I have to admit I haven't really used dotmac or mobileme much "even had a family pack at 1 point in time" I needed a more robust web host. I would however love, love, love to see Apple revamp iWeb into iLife or even as a stand alone app or open source it so, someone can pick up the ball and run with it.

    Tom, you're  right to be concerned, but with all situations, there is also a right way to ask your questions, that is the key to fixing any problems, real or not.  As a web developer and past iWeb instructor,  I have helped with the development of a number of web sites that my clients have made over the last 3 or 4 years.


    I'm getting a number of calls and emails from them. They are in a panic and are pulling their hair out thinking that Apple is going to pull the plug on them. My answer to them is this:


    1. Apple is not stupid, they know that people are counting on them to make this transition work.
    2. Most people just don't think that far down the road.
    3. They have a plan the will deliver much more services then you can imagine.
    4. Why would Apple try to harm its own customers?
    5. Stay calm and stay tuned. From past dealings from Apple, I know they are trying to balance the needs of the few with the needs of the many. (sorry Gene)
    6. More information on iWeb hosting, iDisk Services, Gallery and others will be provided shortly.


    I hope I don't sound to condescending, Tom . Time will only tell, if I'm right or not. For now we all need to act like grown-ups and stop sounding like  just like children that got our favorite toy taken away from us.


    Some of you may think that this is all crap, and that I'm way off base. You're welcome to your opinion, but please keep it on topic.


    Last point, If Apple pulls the plug on services that we all need, I will be the first to make a few calls to Apple people and I know, and  it will be laced with vinegar. 





    No, I don't work for Apple, but I am shareholder for over 20 years & I don't like it when they go south.

    One of things I've noticed since pondering my 'eviction'… (great term someone else brought up), is just how good iWeb is… even in it's 'aging' form.  Now I'm not ridiculing any of the alternatives but after exploring lately thinking I 'may' have to move to one of them I discovered that there really isn't an alternative out there. 


    Rapidweaver, Sandvox, Freeway Express… all very nice products, but in my opinion no where near the intuitiveness and ease of iWeb.  iWeb brought the ability to many to be far more active in the 'tech' world… creating family sites, hobby sites, you name it… all within easy reach.  It was that type of service to 'people', real people, not just 'techies'… that I believe got Apple to where it is today… and I think that turning aside from iWeb and hosting, (if that is the case), is a step backwards. 


    Also… I don't know why some think that because one opposes the loss of iWeb and hosting, (again, if that turns out to be the case), is some kind of diss on 'iCloud'?  I haven't seen ANYone say that… iCloud sounds great… nice going Apple… can't wait to see it… just please bring those things I have come to love and rely on into the 'new' realm as well. - JamesJM

    If you think that Apple is NOT reading this board, then why are you posting James? You can bet your last dollar, they are not only reading it, but are documenting everything thing you post. This is the best place for them to get a lot of feedback on the people the are using there products.   But try to serve a little Napa Cabernet Sauvignon before you drop in the vinegar,

    And I agree, lets hope they (Apple) gets on with it soon. I'm under the gun as it is, I now have a number of clients asking for web hosting. Apple needs to address our concerns quickly, before the backlash hits them and they have a new  "Antennagate"  The press will just love that

    As for as iWeb design form and ease of use. It can't be easer, I use this program for web development and design. The only problem with the iWeb code is that it's not very Google friendly"  I have designed Hundreds of web sites using it, That said, due to the html code problems I have moved over to Rapidwever. I still use iWeb to do my layouts and artwork, then capture the (images) and move then over to the RW program. So now I have the best of both programs.


    I think Apple is missing the boat on this App, and if they fix up the code problems and port it over to the iPad, we will have hundreds thousands  of new web designers on board. Now that will really tick of Adobe

    Precisely, only by using the MM feedback link is there a small glimmer of hope that people's web pages & iDisk data will survive in some form.  Apple made it clear last Monday that MM is dead come the Fall, but they were going to port some services from MM over to iCloud. Those services are Calander Contacts & Email. Web pages &i Disk not mentioned, so regarded as inconsequential. To allow customers using the services of no consequence Apple extended the expiry of the existing of the existing MM contracts to June 30 2012.


    Due to the number of upset customers, Apple then offered a refund for the remaining time on a customers contract which could become effective immediately, with a 4-6 week for the claim to be processed. If you want to wait till the Fall & wait to see if Apple has a change of heart, they also offer you that option. You can request your refund at that point. Otherwise you can accept the extention of service at no additional cost to 30 June 2012 & in the meantime port your data elsewhere.


    Obviously we are in the minority. Most Apple customers don't care a fig what happens to iDisk & the web pages.

    We've been given fair warning, like it or not & have to find another provider for these services as Apple has apparently no desire to continue them.

    I can really see why iWeb developers are concerned about this since both iDVD and iWeb were conspicuously absent from the last update to iLife.


    I had built a site a while ago with iWeb but then migrated the whole thing into a Dreamweaver site. My problem was I had trouble making updates on separate computers. I do hope Apple wouldn't leave iWeb developers in the lurch when they transition to iCloud. My experience has been Apple wants to make these kinds easy for their customers.
