I can not open iTunes. After the latest update I keep getting this error when I try
to open iTunes:
The iTunes Library Extras.itdb file is locked, on locked disc or you do not have write permissions for this file!!!

Navigate to your iTunes Music folder in Finder. Get Info on the folder. Check to see if permissions are set to read and write. If not, change it. And regardless of whether you must change it, then click the lock, enter password, click the Gear and Apply to Enclosed Items.
Thank you for your suggestion. I did exactly as you said, My computer's been restarted a couple of times
since then. The same thing comes up about being locked out of library for iTunes.
I did notice I have two iTunes Library folders. One says Previous iTunes Library. If you think of anything
else to try I'd appreciate your suggestions.

I had the same problem. I have Windows 7 Home Premium Edition, and I had to find my locked iTunes extra folder in the C:/user/username/music section of my computer. I clicked on the locked section and it took me to the correct section. I then had to right click on the iTunes library extras and the iTunes library genius folder. I then clicked on share with and selected homegroup (read/write). That seemed to fix my problem. I know that you don't have a PC, but I hope that this helps anyone who has the same problem as I do.
Not sure what the effects are, but I just renamed the original and restarted. Can anyone explain what I lost?
Can't explain what you lost (nothing?), but your suggestion worked for me. Permissions for these files were already set to "read and write" and it wouldn't let me delete the files. So I just renamed them and then iTunes started up no problem.
I had the same problem after a "force quit".
1. Quit iTunes
2. Locate your iTunes folder in finder and open it
3. Locate the "iTunes Library Extras.itdb" file, right click it and select Copy "iTunes Library Extras.itdb"
5. Rename your original "iTunes Library Extras.itdb" to "iTunes Library ExtrasOld".itdb
6. Move the your copied "iTunes Library Extras.itdb file back into the same folder as i came from
Repeate 3>6 for the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file
Re-open iTunes, the error messages should now be gone.

Thank you! I also had this problem and your solution has worked. Do I now need to delete the files i renamed 'OLD' or do I keep both copies?
