External HD not mounting but USBs are working

My iomega external hard drive is no longer appearing on the desktop - this is Time Machine backup drive. Even Disc Utilities isn't recognising it. Yet, the USB ports on the iomeha HD are working as I can plug my iPhone into the hub and iTunes can see the phone!

Very strange.

Any ideas on how to make the drive appear so I can use it again?

Greetings,

Turn the computer off
Unplug all devices from the computer except the hard drive and your keyboard and mouse.
Unplug the AC power from the hard drive and from the wall and then replug both sides very firmly preferably into a different power outlet than the one you are currently using.
Reset the SMC and then test: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Reset the PRAM and then test: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html

If the issue persists at this point then the drive is having a hardware issue and its time to contact Iomega.
