How do I import an mp3 into iMovie?

I have iMovie 09, and have an audio track that I recorded in GarageBand, and want to import it into iMove to play under a screen capture video I created with QuickTime Player.

Via Googling, I've seen a lot of people say this can be done, but can't find any specifics, including iMovie's help section, and the forums.

Any assistance on this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Doug,

I haven't tried this personally, but one solution may be to import the audio track into iTunes. In iTunes you can then convert the track to AAC (it may even convert to this on import, depending on your import settings). Note, however, that mp3 files in iTunes normally import OK to iMovie, so you may not need to convert to AAC. In iTunes>Preferences you can set your import preferences (General tab - Import Settings).

Whether you convert or not, in iMovie the track should be accessible from the Media panel - Music. Drag from there to your project. Drop directly onto the video thumbnails then reposition as required (a green bar/ribbon will appear under the thumbnails).

I have the same problem as Doug, but could not find a solution yet, despite the answers to this post.

iMovie version I am using is 10.0.6 under Yosemite. My audio files are in MP3. When I drag-drop them into my iMovie Library, they initially appear without problem. But when I want to read them (i.e. listen to them) no sounds comes out of the file, and the wave appears as flat green. I've tried importing the files to iTunes and choosing them in iMovie from there, but the result is strictly the same. I am a bit desperate to find a solution to this problem.
