Having to reset the SMC every few days....

Is there any chance that this practice could harm my computer if I do it too often?

I have a white macbook that I bought in 2007 and recently it started to tell me that the battery was not charging. I replaced both the battery and the magsafe adapter and it seemed to work well after that. The only problem is every 2 or 3 days, the computer starts to display the same 'not charging' status and it's only resolved by resetting the SMC. Is there something else that I should look at that might be causing this issue?
