Phone icon missing

Phone icon missing

My 7 year old was playing with my phone and somehow deleted some extremely important icons from my iPhone.

There is no phone icon listed along the bottom. There is no iPod icon. It only has Safari icon.

Also, the calendar icon is missing.

Can anyone tell me how to to get these icons back?

Specifically, how do I use my phone? How can I get to anything to let me use my phone? I can't figure out how to use it at all now.

I have tried going to Page 2, the icons are not there.

I have tried settings-> general -> Reset Home Screen Layout. It brought back some icons, but not the ones I need.

what else can i do?

You can't delete the phone icon or the iPod icon, plug your iPhone into your computer and not let it sync. Then click on the iPhone and make sure all of the icons you want on your iphone are checked. Then sync.

Have you checked Restrictions?

Settings > General > Restrictions.

Generally this is why you cannot see the icon nor access the functions.

Did you accidentaly restored it with iPod touch firmware? I had the same problem on iPhone 3G sometimes. Backup your stuff and do a clean restore (don't restore from backup). Otherwise check your restriction settings.

Eric, Thanks for the instructions. However, I had already tried to synch before I read this. Now my iTunes/iPhone screen looks like my iPhone, with only Safari at the bottom, no phone.

I don't believe restrictions is turned on, so I can't "un-restrict"

No, I have not restored it with anything recently.

I can receive phone calls, so the application is not deleted. I just can't press "phone" and dial a number.

If anyone can think of anything else, it would be appreciated.

Bill,

If I am not mistaken you can always reset the homescreen layout from Settings>General>Reset. Try to make a full backup of your iPhone in iTunes and then try to reset homescreen or erase and contents amd setings.

This is just a question I have to ask, it is possible that you put the phone icon in a folder? Do you have an icons that look like this http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/folders.html

Thanks for the replies.

Homescreen reset did bring back other icons I had deleted, but didn't bring back "phone" or "calendar"

No, I don't have any folders.

Any other ideas?

I guess I'll have to restore.

Another ways to reach Phone.app

Over spotlight try to type some numbers of your contacts

Try to hold home until you see the voice control screen, then try to call something from your contacts

both will bring Phone.app, if those doesnt work I think you should visit Apple.

Never seen such a problem before

Just had same problem. Restored new iPhone from iPod backup and telephone icon disappeared. Quick panic and loss of temper 😁, then found the icon in a folder called "Photography". No idea why. Probably easiest to look through each page through computer using iTunes and go through each folder on each page. It may be there, somewhere, cunningly hidden from view. Good luck.

Brecon, I had also tried all the technical combinations of restoring, rebacking up, enabling and disabling restrictions, long chats with Apple support etc. when i lost my phone icon after I upgraded to OS5 on my iphone 4S two days back. When nothing worked and I was ready to give up (since it seems many iphone users have the same problem)...I chanced upon your simple suggestion. It seemed a bit ludicrous but i starting searching through all my app folders on my phone...and Voila, there was my Phone icon 'cunningly' sitting in my 'News' folder. Many many thanks!

I had a similar problem due to my 4 year old rearranging my icons. My phone icon and my mail icon were moved several screens over. Hopefully, you have recovered your icons by now.
