Is it possible to have bi-lingual interface menus and system ?

This is a question that I have been asking many times.

Imagine if I was teaching my kids how to use a Mac in English and the kids spoke mainly in Japanese and they could not understand computer English well so to save time ,not having to re log in and out of an account in different interface language every minute or so then a bi-lingual menu interface would be a good solution.

We could choose any two languages at installation and customize language preferences the kids could improve their language and computer use skills

I would think the menu fonts would have to be made smaller somehow, with two language packs together

What are the pitfalls to this idea ? I would like to out this idea .

Thank you

You can suggest it to Apple here:

But I think interest in such a feature is probably too limited to anyone to devote the resources to implementing it. They still have dozens of individual languages they need to translate the OS into in order to really reach the global market.

Doesn't "Fast User Switching" eliminate the need to re log in?

Since you are asking in a developer forum, I will give you the developer answer. You might be able to do it yourself. Right-click the application you are interested in and choose "see bundle contents" (or something similar). Navigate around until you find the location of all the .lproj files. These are the language localization files. If you install the developer tools, you should be able to edit the japanese one to contain short english descriptions.

Make sure you work on copies, and be prepared to re-install the application!

Thank you for your mail .As you may know I am not a Developer I do not know basic Programing code, however..

I wish to explore the Physical possibilities of Bi lingual interface Localization purely for language learning ( I wish to work for Apple in Finnish ) and without having to switch accounts or interface I tried with Shared screen vie network it works well but still need to look at both because in different languages the word may be alphabetically placed in a different rank unless it is not alphabetical see below

Eng Finnish Keyboard

Short cut

c opy K opio if any

Copy Kopio is a unusual example

I wish also to have line by line or link right click so if I point to Learn basics about your Mac in blue then key board short cut a menu appears on the screen like Cocoa to my Language link or Bi lingual dictionary Finnish because Finnish Localization is already somewhere in the system I know it maybe easy to say because Bundles are translated some how Apple could make it where the interface was designed so that a loclaization language could be inserted

These langauge Ideas could be usefull for trainers or foreign customer 1 to 1 say an English Apple trainer showing a Finnish trainee how to install an OSX .

First they both look at the screen Which Language to use if they could select 2 languages then they both can see their own language

A language teacher could teach a Language at the same time teach how to use a computer and then language learning tools on a computer so the learner gets 2 in 1 .

OSX Lions voice over in different Languages is a good development I am looking forward to this when the Finnish speaker speaks Finnish over the English word!?

Apple needs to 100% Localize to compete most of Apple customers are none native English at the same time we must preserve local language and culture not PakkoEnglanti

Please send this to Finnish Apple I would like to contact Finnish Apple developers I am Interested in learning Finnish with Bi lingual interface with Swedish and English

K T You have asked it several times...why keep repeating this discussion?

Because he wants force Apple to do it ,it can be done Apple is international, many people use two or more languages at the same time as using a Computer.

And also if someone is peeking at you while you are working you can use a language only you know.

we can use it side by side with students of multi lingual education

Help tags Tool tips links icons and Hyper Cocoa can be used to link to Help and trouble shooting solutions and explaining about system code programming language text.

even customize our OSX

Apple just make fads we want knowledge.

Why do you persist in asking the same Question about

Is it possible to have bi-lingual interface menus and system ?

Sheffi Wrote to Apple

Dear Apple

I learn Finnish because I wish to use Mac interface in Finnish and develop Language learning on Mac at the same time learning Mac Computing in that Language.

So my dream is to have all interface text in 2 or 3 Languages of choice ,any word like in Apple Dictionary linked so when I hover my mouse over System Preferences in Dock for example the word Balloon System Preferences has an Hyperlink to an Encyclopedic Apple Dictionary of all known words use for all Hardware software Factory Design and Manufacture How the PC is designed and all the Code and Programming text Data Examples and easy explanations of complex code and Computer science translated into All known Languages of the world and we can Edit the words So I can Write Maq instead of Mac and Coocos and Google Chrome like Language Immersion when reading text.

In making soft ware Apple should design a international box like text field so any 2 or3 language scan be inserted and iCons Bookmarks Icon with a red Bookmark to show an open Book and an icon of an eye to indicate look and not that yellow Help tag instead a link to the Apple Help Dictionary and Grab Photo of installation on OS in Bi lingual Disk Utility and all Pages on Apple Website Safari and how to tweak interface customise more installation and Make it simple for Disabled people and Educational limited people like me and blend old Aqooa

Styles like Google Chrome and even a Totally iQon only simple interface using many symbols and if the person can not understand a voice or text comes up but depending on the many times the uses that with or without success I have many ideas but most people say it takes too much space and time but we can ask the computer to sort that out.
