Use Automator to convert wmf files

Ok - I have Amadeus II, Logic Studio, and VLC media player....but I have HUNDREDS of these wmf files that my friend recorded in the field and I just want to listen to them like a playlist (not in itunes). I thought I could make a workflow app in Automator but it seems Automator doesn't recognize the wmf just as os x doesn't. How can I make this work? Thanks!!

MacBook Pro 2.2 C2D, 4GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, Mac OS X (10.6.6), iBook G4 1.3 Ghz 120GB 7200 RPM HDD 1.5GB Ram, Gen1 iPad
