Greetings,

Are you refering to iCal on a Mac (as opposed to the Calendar.app on an iPod touch / iPhone / iPad)?

If so please indicate what version of the Mac OS you are running on your system (Apple Menu > About this Mac).

Troubleshooting:

1. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.

2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:

Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical

Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)

Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)

---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.

Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.

Hope that helps.

Are you using "MobileMe" calendars or "On My Mac" calendars in iCal?

Make sure you have one of the calendar highlighted when you go to add an event so iCal knows which calendar is supposed to receive the event.

Out of curiosity see if File > New Event adds an event for you.

More troubleshooting:

Reset your sync history and try again: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26867.html

If the issue persists:

1.) Remove the following to the trash:

Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical and / or "ical"

Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)

Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)

2.) Reset your sync history: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26867.html

3.) Restart the computer and then test.

If the issue persists at this point please take a picture (http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/#capturescreen) of the left hand side of your iCal window and add it to your post here.
