Thanks for the answers. I am trying to find a way for the Ipad to replace my laptop. I am in court sometimes 4 hours at a time and have to keep my laptop plugged in (if and when I can find a plug it usually requires me to go buns-up in a skirt trying to reach it). I know the Ipad has a great battery so I wanted to use the Ipad in conjunction with the wi-fi hotspot on the Iphone but am concerned I will run the phone battery down with 4 hourse of hot spot usage. Any ideas? Forgive me, I don't know very much about the Ipad and keep getting different answers from the Verizon guy.

Do you need to have constant Wi-Fi access for the iPad? Are you trying to decide between getting the Wi-Fi vs. the Wi+3G model? I think the only thing you will not be able to do on the iPad 3G model without the iPhone acting as a hot spot is use FaceTime.

The iPad does not have physical USB ports so you cannot use it as a charger. The iPad has good battery life but be careful not to overestimate what it can do on a charge.

Not trying to kill a sale but if you rely on your laptop to visit web sites for visual content, you may want to stick with a laptop. If you are going to just visit a specific set of web sites, test them on an iPad before buying.

The iPad is an extremely nice device but it was not designed to be a computer replacement. If there are specific laptop task that you question how they would work on an iPad, feel free to ask.

Also please note that the power requirements for the iPad are much greater than those of the iPhone. If you are use to charging the phone with the laptop, that probably will not work with the iPad.

Right now I tether my BBerry to my laptop for internet access and it is pretty slow. I typically use a MS Exchange VPN to access my desktop and keep a browser open on the main laptop screen to check email, browse wesites, etc. while I'm connected to the VPN. I was hoping the Wi-Fi hotspot would allow me to use our MS Exchange VPN as well as the internet at the same time and with better speeds. Your answers have been very helpful and are making me strongly question an IPad.
