No one outside Apple, and possibly no one inside Apple, knows what the release date will be. WWDC, the annual meeting of Mac and iOS developers, starts on Monday, and there might be more information then.

Historically, there has been no easy reverse migration between Mac OS versions, because file formats change. Once Lion is released, you can install it on an external hard drive for testing.

Buy the machine you want now, it will come with Snow Leopard install disks.

Backup your files as always, upgrade to Lion when it comes out and when you don't like it, just c boot from the Snow Leopard install disks and Disk Utility is there to completely and utterly remove the horrible OS X Lion operating system from your computer.

Then you can simply install Snow Leopard and everything will be normal again, reinstall your programs and your files from backup.

Easy as pie.

If you buy a Mac with OS X Lion, then if you wipe it and install Snow Leopard from the $29 disks, you don't get iLife programs.

Better yet, just buy a Mac with Snow Leopard and never upgrade to Lion! It will work just fine for 5-7 years and your computer won't look like a iPad!! 😀

Well lets say I'll give Lion a fair shake, but I'm not liking what I'm seeing so far, especially with the Mac App Store. Many others have also expressed their dismay in quiet revelations.

Steve has been quietly warning he intends to close OS X up, so anyone who wants a Snow Leopard machine better buy one now. For me, I like choice.

That's Firefox that I've themed, made it's font size bigger. (compare to the OS X font size, it's twice as big and easy to read)

VMFusion is running with MacBuntu (a Linux based OS X theme) as the operating system in the window
