I can't open my aperture library:"There was an error opening the database for the library": what I can do? I've tried to reinstall aperture, I've also tried to use TM but nothing, I can't open aperture...Help me please!!!!

Try holding down the option& command keys when you start Aperture. This will bring up the library first aid window. Run the repair permissions and repair database.

it doesn't work ...if i hold down option&command starting aperture i have the same error "i can't open my aperture library...
Try just holding the option key. This will bring up the library choice window. create a new library and let Aperture open that. Post back the results
Also post your hardware and software setup and any recent changes to either and let us know if Aperture ever worked or it this a new install.
For me none of the posted "solutions" worked.
I tried the Option+Command+click on either the Aperture program app or the Aperture library in Finder...did not work.
I tried deleting ~/Library/Preferences... did not work. This was probably the "standard" Apple tech solution.
The solution for me was to Option+click the Aperture program to launch it and Create a NEW empty library.
Then simply IMPORT the corrupted library, in order to recover my photos.
I saw a status message saying "Upgrading Library: scanning library" and lots of CPU activity for a few hours on a 36 GB library.
Several error messages came up about re-publishing previously published galleries but I ignored them (since they were already published)
Not sure what gets lost but at least I got all my photos back.

I am having the same issue you described and I followed what you said about what worked for you and the only thing that happened when i tried to create a new library is a thing came up on my screen saying it was merging libraries and then it didn't do anything after that. I just have a black screen. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Hello DVX100Shooter - are you really sure that Aperture is not doing anything? It might take a long time to import a large amount of photos from the corrupted Library to the new one. Check Activity Monitor for Aperture's CPU and disk activity. It might just be taking a long time.... good luck.
i chose the option rebuild library, which took some time, but fixed the problem. (start apperture with optioin command pressed)
As it is repairing or rebuilding, can you see anything to indicate it is doing it?
