Iphone and iTunes help

I'm sure this question has been asked fairly often, but...

My iPhone 3Gs (which only holds a charge for 4 hours) is not being recognized by my PC or iTunes. I plug it into the USB port to charge it and after a few seconds I get a message that pops up saying "USB Device Not Recognized". I've gone through all of the steps on this site that Apple lists as remedies for this issue but none work. I have also tried a different USB port, a different cord, and it charges in the wall charger.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Yes. I even uninstalled iTunes all together, making sure I unistalled the mobile device support and then reinstalled it all. Still not working.

Try it on another computer... you don't have to sync, just see if iTunes sees it. I suspect a problem with your iPhone or the USB port(s) on your computer.

I've tried all of the USB ports on the computer and it doesn't work in any of them. I've tried a different USB cord and that didn't work. I tried it on a different computer and that computer recognized it.
