How do I get back to the first page of an application when I'm in the middle of it?

I'm sure there's an easy answer for this, but I can't find it. If I'm in the middle of an application, say iBook, and I want to get back to the first page of that application, how do I do it? When I tap on HOME, I go back to the home page with all the icons. I want to go to another page within the application I'm in? I've been stuck in iBook for an hour.....I don't know how to get back to the first page in that application. Thanks.

It really depends on the application. In iBooks if you tap at the very top of the screen, it will bring up the navigation buttons, including one that says "Library". That will take you back to the main screen of the application.

I know how to go from one page to another or from one section of a book to another, it's the whole application I'm talking about. Wherever I leave off in iBook for example, when I click on that app again, I go back to the same page that I was on before. I want to browse through the whole app. I've done everything:powered down and than back up hoping to get to the first page of an app; I've gone to home and then gone back, but I'm still on that same app page. I can't get out of it. I want to go to different parts of the app....not the same page.

Thanks so much. I just saw the video of iBooks. One problem is my book shelves are empty because I transferred all my books from my Kindle. Will those books go on the shelves or into iBooks? Right now they are in the kindle app....can I move them?

Thanks so much, all of you. I just got this iPad (I'm sure you couldn't figure that out, and I think I'm trying to do too much at once! I'm sure it will all come eventually....I don't generally have problems with anything mac.

The shelves should show the ibooks that you've got in the app i.e. your downloaded purchases from the iBookstore. At the top of the shelves there should also be a Store button (for browsing, purchasing, re-downloading books from the iBookstore), and Collections (where any PDFs that you've synced/copied into the app go).

There is a chapter on the iBooks app in the manual, which can be downloaded from here http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad

In iBooks you should have a line of dots across the bottom of the page (assuming that it's an iBook), with a box around one of the dots - drag that box to the left-hand end to go back to the start of the book, or to any other position that you'd like to go to in the book. PDFs in iBooks show mini pages at the bottom, but it's the same principle - one page is highlighted which you can then drag.

Other apps will probably have a different way of doing it.
