All anyone can say is that Apple did not see fit to include such functionality in the iPad. If you expected the iPad to be able to make standard phone calls, you were operating under an incorrect and unwarranted assumption. There are many features that Apple could have included in the iPad but did not. You can suggest phone capabilities, or any other feature you would like to see included in a future model of iPad, to Apple via the feedback link posted below.

Further argument is a waste of everyone's time, yours included.

Regards.

I vehemently disagree.. as an IPhone user I feel I would get added functionality if I could place

calls using an Ipad. This would truly benefit travellers and corporate types who want to have

an integrated experience for all their needs in one thin book-sized unit.

Think about it... pair your headset with your Ipad, and be able to collaborate in real-time while

working on documents, etc. This is futuristic stuff that Apple could have included in the

IPad, but didn't... most likely the Ipad chipset does possess the functionality but they

clipped it in software, or pared it down to data-only.

To say nitpasfromsingapore is the only one who wants it is simply incorrect. I wished

Apple would include the feature. With the Ipad 2, still no go. Why do I have to rely

on Skype ? The fact Skype exists for Ipads and Ipods for the purpose of Voip calling

means that enough demand is there that perhaps they should have included native

phone capability (apart from data) in the product.

You can currently do this with Skype, Oovoo and Facetime.

You're right, there are now two people who want this feature.

Ipad shouldnt be expected to be able make phone calls because simply Apple will never make them able to.

I totally agree with Apple. This way all their products are distinct. An ipad is an iPAD, we use it as a book, a note, a magazine, a gamestation. An Iphone is an iPHONE.

Moreover, we are lucky that Apple enables Facetime on Ipad which is very powerful, we can even use a range of communication softwares such as Skype .. etc.

I disagree. Many folks thought that IP2 or an next version would include phone services. It makes perfect sense from a user stand point to consolidate. I simple phone jack would make this so possible.

I am sure Apple has economic reasons why not - but someone else probably will. If the features were good - I'd but it.

Now if only room light and temperature would charge the battery....
