Damaged Hard drive how to retrieve files

I have a friends late 2008 MBP 2.4GHz Unibody whos hard drive seems to have packed in. I have just bought Disk Warrior as a last resort but unfortunately get this when scanning the HD via Target mode: directory cannot be rebuilt due to disk hardware failure (-36,2738). The odd thing is that Disk Warrior reads 7 Macintosh HDs not one - is there something i cacn do to get Disk Warrior to see the data as only one drive?

Is there any way for me to patch the drive up enough to get the files off onto and external drive?

thanks

Phil

Ok, I've just ran the demo version and it says that it cannot find anything to rebuild. I've tried the demo for StellarPheonix too but again it could not find anything to salvage.

I think the problem is that the recovery software is seeing the drive as 9 or 10 mirrored drives like this–

Macintosh HD 246GB

Macintosh HD 246GB

Macintosh HD 246GB

Macintosh HD 246GB

Macintosh HD 246GB

Macintosh HD 246GB

Macintosh HD 246GB

Macintosh HD 246GB

It's as if the software doesn't know which one to scan.
