I'm assuming you mean the screen went black? Try holding the power button and the home button for 10 seconds, maybe more if necessary. Works everytime for me. 🙂 Hope this helps. If not, take it into an Apple store... That being said, if it's an iPod with a jb version of iOS, they won't doing anything about it. Jb, destoys the waranty on it. :\

That symptom is covered here:
Hold down the power button and the HOME button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. If not try doing it while the charger is plugged in. It worked for me!!!!
I'm having the same problem. except that none of your advice is helping. I've held the sleep button and the home button for a long time. And nothing happens. I've also tried it while it is charging but also no dice :/

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Long story short i was deleting stuff off of it so i had more room on it and i got into something i have no idea what it was and i just chose to delete it it prompt me about something and i ignored it because i didnt understand what it meant.
