Actually, you can.

Did you every try to actually have a conversation the way the OP described - with a headset? All you hear is the music and a muffled hint of the voice of the caller.

"isn't all that good" isn't exactly the same as completely unintelligible, which is what it is...

OTOH, this may be an excellent way of dealing with calls from annoying relatives - just chill with the music and add in an occasional random "uh-huh" and "right"...
