How can I replace Textedit with another application, (iAWriter) as my default text editor? I know I can ctrl click a doc>Opden With>Other>select iAWriter>tick the open always box, but that only works for the particular doc and does not make iAWriter the default text editor for all docs.
There should be an option for the selected document only or for all such documents.
Select one of the documents you want to open and Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Open With section select the application you want as the default from the dropdown menu then click on the Change All button.
I have answered my own question! Thanks to a previous discussion https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2106075 which works for what I want to do. Sorry to waste space.
