If Apple says that it's gonna last 10 hours, well,it's not. When they say it can last 10 hours, they mean that it's the maximum number of hours that the device could last being barely used.If your using Wi-Fi online on it,then it'll probably last around 3 1/2 hours. If your doing high performance gaming, then it'll last around an hour and if your just letting it sit somewhere for a while, then it'll last anywhere around 6-10 hours.

About 6 weeks ago I noted the time I spent on my iPad for each session, and it came to just under 14 hours before the battery was exhausted.

During that period I used my iPad mainly for Wi-Fi Internet surfing (hardly any video clips and/or other sounds), of which about 2 1/2 hours cellular surfing, with screen brightness set to minimum and sometimes just slightly above the minimum.

You can find some good tips in this document on battery life:

I'm not sure why you bothered posting this. Your "information" does not reflect my experience, nor that of many people who have actually used the device. I wonder whether you're theorising or simply trolling.

If I "just let it sit somewhere", it'll last for 3 days or so. Yes "days".

If I use it in my most common pattern - WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth all on, volume use of email and the web browser, substantial periods of iBook reading - it lasts a full day - that is from about 07:00 to about 23:00.

If it's in constant use (e.g. video playback), it'll last *more* than 10 hours.

And that's based on real-life use

How long the battery lasts is going to depend on what you're doing with it. Reading an eBook, my iPad will last well beyond 10 hours. If I'm running Bluetooth, WiFi, watching videos, have the screen brightness turned up, it my not last quite that long.

Overall, I get to smirk at the folks at the local coffee shop who are scrambling for the few outlets to charge up their laptops while I spend hours, happily drinking coffee and using my iPad without worrying about a charge.

The original post was a proper technical question.

I am going to go with that you haven't even used an iPad 2. Because if u did u would know that the battery does last about 10 hours. I use mine everyday for Internet browsing, email, games, and videos and it last for ever. I charge it every night but I can get through the day with out having to charge it constantly.

You must be confusing the iPad 2 with one of it's android brethen.

One of the main selling points why I got the iPad 2 is the promise of great battery life lasting up to 10 hours. I've had it for a few days, and being the newbie that I am, well you all know what happens when we get our new toy. We use it, and use it a lot. I may have the Wifi only model (I'm sure the 3G one uses up more battery) but I've used it for YouTube, iBooks, browisng my favorite sites, playing a few games, social networking, and I must say that it has great battery life. The 10 hours advertised is not set in stone however.

I use a laptop as my main computer and when I'm out, I try to suck out as much power I can get from it. Same thing goes with the iPad. We can have our own configurations, like turning off most features that we know we won't use, dimming the screen as long as its acceptable to us, using earphones instead of the built-in speaker, etc.

Bottom line is, it depends on how you use it.

Michael, you are completely off base on battery life on iPad. I use my iPad all of the time with WiFi on and my battery life is anywhere between 8 hours and a little over 9 hours depending on my use. If I am playing a lot of iPad games, this drops off to approx. 7-8 hours. Playing video either from Netflix, YouTube, or from the iPad's own video app, the battery life varies greatly. On average, video playing yields approx. 6-7 hours max. Turning off notifications helps with getting longer battery life. Also, turning down the iPad's screen brightness helps a lot, too! I have my screen brightness set to a little below 3/4 brightness and at night, with minimal room lighting, I have my screen brightness set to 50.
