Almost certainly, the reason no one understands your issues is because you haven't explained them well enough.

...but you fail to mention whether you have checked the point made by ed2345.

I can hear alarm bells. It really isn't good.

So you haven't fixed it yourself, despite saying that you have.
Okay, stop with those negative waves.
Have you checked to make sure that the Playlist you are trying to add to is a Regular Playlist...
and not a Smart Playlist...
or a Playlist Folder...
?
In addition to all of this, the original question was asked 18 months ago, before iTunes 11. So is your problem that you cannot work out how to create a new playlist? For example, at which point do you get stuck with this new Playlist, creating it, or adding to it?
I had the same issue after upgrading to the latest iTunes today. Here is how I "fixed" the problem.
Closed iTunes and made sure I was logged out and killed all processes associated it.
Started it back up.
At that point drag and drop started to work again. Go figure.
Hi everyone,
I have tried all of the above and it still doesn't work. I can't seem to add any songs to playlists at all. I've tried loggin in and out, shutting down and still nothing. I am so annoyed as it's a pain! I had just restored my ipod prior to the update and was going to recreate my playlists for dancing tonight but now I have no idea what to do! How could Apple let something SO bad slip through the system!!!
Please help!

This has also happened to me. Ive been able to drag and drop once in the last two days. Ive logged out, restart, unplugged and updated and nothing seems to work. This seriously damages my ability to use itunes and I hope it gets fixed soon. Thanks for the time.
I am having the same problem. I have had several issues like this with Itunes 11. It is really not good. Some of it seems to be the way that itunes syncs with the cloud. I have emailed tech support on the issues and no one seems to really understand my issues and I have had to end up fixing them myself. Today all I wanted to do was create a new playlist and add some music to it and I just can't do it. I can add music to my old playlists but not the new one. I have looked everywhere. I hope this is not the sign of things to come with apple.
Dude you are as bad as the people I have dealt with at Apple. One example: I said that I have fixed the the other issues myself. Not this one. This is pretty clear in what I said.
I also said, pretty clearly, that I created the playlist, but cannot add music to it. The title of this post is, "can't drag and drop songs into a playlist. I don't know but that seems pretty clear to me.
This is the kind of non help that I have been getting from Apple.
What happens when you try? Normally when you start dragging one or more songs towards a playlist the cursor changes in some way, and changes again if it doesn't want to let you do what it thinks you want to do. What do you see?

Thanks for trying to understand my problem. It was actually not doing anything. The playlist would not even highlight. I actually deleted the folder and playlist and recreated it and it solved the problem. Back up and running. Thanks.
I just have had so many little buggy issues with the new itunes that I have been really frustrated. One time itunes lost my entire library and wanted to resync everything from the cloud even though I already had all my songs in the folder on my computer. Took me like 3 hours to resolve. I have been using itunes for many years now and have never had issues like this before.

If you want help, then please explain what you have done, which of the many pointers in this thread you have followed and at which point you got stuck. Specifically, have you made sure that the Playlist you are trying to add to is a Regular Playlist, as described in my post of 28th Januay 2013? Also, what is your answer to tt2's question, asked on the same day, regarding "what happens when you try to drag a song to a Playlist", what does the cursor do?
I AM SICK TO MY GUTS WITH APPLE AND ITS CONNECTIVITY WITH OTHER DEVICES. I DON'T KNOW FOR WHAT ******* REASON I CANT DRAG AND DROP SONGS AND TONES TO ITUNES PLAYLISTS FROM MY PC. I AGREE APPLE PRODUCTS ARE OF HIGH STANDARDS AND GOOD TO USE GENERALLY BUT SOME PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOLS ARE A TOTAL PAIN ALL OVER THE BODY, I KNOW ITS NECESSARY FOR SECURITY, BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THEY SHOULD MAKE THINGS EASIER TO USE AND MAKE IT IRRITATINGLY ANNOYING.
I HAVE FELT SO ****** OFF AND DISGUSTED AT TIMES WITH ITUNES THAT I FEEL IF ONLY I HAD AN BOMB OR A WEAPON AND PERON/S RESPONSIBLE TO CREATING SUCH A **** SYSTEM.
SOMETIMES THIS PIECE OF **** APP (iTUNES) DOES NOT EVEN WANT TO LAUNCH. GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Enough of me venting out my anger, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE **** IS THE PROBLEM THAT I CANT DRAG DROP MEDIA FROM PC TO iTunes.
Everything is uptodate(phone,PC,itunes)
couldn't find a solution online
tried re-installing
trying to drag drop same kind of media as done in the past
tried all possibilities available online.
I AM SURE ONE OF YOU GENIUSES MUST HAVE A SOLUTION TO APPLE'S INCOMPETENCY.
THANKS IN ADVANCE
here are few things for more information.
1. Even when the device is not synced to iTunes, i still cant drag and drop .mp3 extension files to iTunes.
2. I have 64 bit device with similar latest version of Windows 10(I think).
3. I THINK THIS HAS STATED HAPPENING AFTER THE UPDATE
4. A new User profile was created automatically after the update with all new settings and no links to my existing files, I had to do system restore to previous version.
5. I have Quicktime installed.
I DONT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS HOW TO FIX IT, i only need to be able to drag drop media from PC to itunes so i can have it on my iPhone.
Hope this gives some more information to pin point the problem.
thanks.
If you don't already do so I suggest you backup your library and update the backup regularly, and especially before any upgrade. Only sure way not to lose stuff.
tt2
No worries. If you get the empty library thing after an upgrade it can usually be fixed in moments.

Make sure it is a regular playlist (eighth note icon) and not a smart playlist (gear icon). You cannot drag songs into smart playlists.
I have had the same problem with iTunes 10.4. I have tried relaunching iTunes, repairing permissions, restarting the computer and reinstalling iTunes 10.4. Nothing works. What now?
I do, thanks.
