I have just purchased a MacBook Pro. I have never had a Mac before so I'm not familiar with correct terminology but....when I plug something into my USB port (camera, iphone, whatever) where do I find it??? I know the connection is made but nothing comes up on the desktop to show how to access the device? I can't find it in the finder, file, or anywhere.

Your System Profiler app in your Utilities folder will tell you what is plugged into your USB ports.
I found that but it won't let me access what I have plugged in.....it's just a little Lexar brand "card reader" for my camera's memory card.....How do I access the pictures? I can't find it anywhere. On my Dell PC any time I plug something in it just pops up on the desktop screen....????? Does Mac not do that?
If there's a card in the reader, and the card is readable, and the reader is working, then it should appear in the sidebar of any Finder window. Depending on your Finder settings, it may also appear as an icon on the Desktop. It should also appear in the Image Capture application, and in Disk Utility.
