Where are the kindle books I downloaded from amazon?

I down loaded my kindle books to the IPad. I. Used the amazon app and had no difficulty but I can't find the books on the iPad. I know they were yesterday but I don't see them now.

I was looking in the Kindle App but didn't realize I wasn't on the home screen. Once I figured out how to get back to the home, I found the books.

This is a general problem I'm having. When I leave an app and go back to it, I go back to the same page that I was on when I left. Half the time, though, I cannot find how to get to the home page of that app. Sometimes,it's obvious, often it is not. No app is the same as you know. I scroll over with my mouse looking for some hint and scroll up and down the screen but it is not easy. One app the directions in the form of arrows were way below the text on the screen; never even thought to look there. It is very frustrating.

In fact, I have no trouble with technology but this iPad is really difficult. I have never found a single answer to a question in the user's manual. The ONLY place there is good help is here but I hate to post hourly on this discussion board. Someone else may want a turn. Anyway, I thank all of you. If this resource were not available, I can't imagine ever getting the hang of the iPad.

In some way sing, using the iPad itself is very intuitive but as you stated, the way the apps works varies from app to app. You will get the hang of of it. Always come back if you have a question. This is a great support site with a lot of smart, experienced users who have a wealth of knowledge they are willing to share.

Unfortunately there isn't a 'standard' user interface that every app uses, so the ways that things are done in one app won't necessarily be the same in another app - as you've found out. For the Kindle app there is this page on the Amazon site which may help http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_ipland_uread?nodeId=2 00298480&#read. But unfortunately they have the one page that covers both the iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch which (due to the difference in their screen sizes) have slightly different screen layouts, so some of the screenshots they show aren't exactly the same on the iPad - but it may be of some use (hopefully).

For other apps there is generally a 'support' page link on their description page in the store, where you may find a user's guide and/or frequently asked questions page - but, again unfortunately, not all do.

And don't worry about asking questions - it's better to ask and get an answer than to go unasked/unanswered (and other people will probably find the question/answer useful as well).

How do you know it doesn't open if you lost the app. That doesn't make sense to me.

If you can't find the app, try this....

From your home screen, swipe to the right to bring up the spotlight search feature. Type Kindle into the search field. If it shows up, then it is installed somewhere on the iPad. If you tap on the App when it shows up, then it should open for you.

If you can find the app, but it will not open, restart your iPad and try again. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to power off. Then press the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

i know they are there becuase the icons are there, but when i click on them they dont open. i went to the app store and searched the kindle app. i cannot reinstall because it shows as installed. im afraid to delte the icon and reinstall becuase i may lose the books I have (or had after all that). In summary, the update i've made caused more distress than benefits...

You won't lose the books. They are tied to your Amazon Kindle account not to the iPad. I'm still confused ... are you saying that the books you've downloaded will not open? Or the Kindle app is not opening?

If the books will not open try this. Double tap the home button to bring up you recent apps. Find the Kindle app and tap and hold down on it until it wiggles then tap the minus sign to close the app. You might want to close any other apps you have open as well. Then tap the home button again.

Restart the iPad like I stated in my post above, then open the Kindle app and tap on a book to open it.

Thanks for your help. i've restarted a couple of times but didn't change anything. When I searched as you suggested and clicked on Kindle in the seach results list I got a blank page that would't go away by pressing the main button or tapping on the screen, so had to restart the ipad. the books were stored in the Kindle app, and as I can't open it, I can't access the books. Cheers
