Hi! I bought this adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004HYHZJY because it was affordable and said it was mac compatible (haha). I had some trouble with the compressed files on the CD that came with it, but was able to go to the Realtek website and download what appears to be their newest driver here:

http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=6&PFid=6&Level =5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#RTL8100B(L)/RTL8100C(L)/RTL8101L/RTL8139C(L )
RTL8139C(L)+/RTL8139D(L)/RTL8100(L)
RTL8130/RTL8139B(L)

The driver is for OSX 10.2 and I am running 10.4.11 so I don't know if that's part of the problem, but I initially ran the one for 10.04 that is available for download first. It had an installer and appeared to install, but the WLAN utility would not work, so I uninstalled it. Then the download for 10.2 does not have an installer and says to uncompress the driver install package by terminal Usage: tar zxvf rtl8139_release111_macos10_2.pkg.tar.gz and warns not to use a utility to uncompres it, but I couldn't get the command to work in terminal for me. I am pretty much terminal illiterate...I could use Unix as a teenager in the mid 90's, but remember pretty much none of it :-)

Anyways, I would love to get this to work, or barring any hope of that would like some suggestions on adapters that would work, because it's getting extremely annoying not to have internet access on this machine!

Thanks in advance!

Judy

Hi, it's doubtful the 10.2 Driver would work in 10.4, since een most 10.3 drivers do not work in 10.4.

Kind of funny they don't have later Mac drivers, when they have current Windows drivers.

What all files are on the CD it came with?

    >The Mac drivers are for Mac Os X 10.4 and 10.5, i don't know if they support 10.6 but it'll probably work.

Did you have it unplugged when Installing, then revboot, plug it in, then go to System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations, you should then get a popup that says :New Port Detected, say OK & drag it to the top of the list, run WLAn Utility then
