I have an older Roland E36 Keyboard. It has midi in and outs. I have a midi to usb interface. Anyone know how to configure this arrangement to function? I have snowlepard and have checked the Audio MIDI Setup and the keyboard is not being detected. I'm pretty clueless. Does the keyboard need to be configured somehow. The Roland manual stinks....Thanks for any input!!

make sure you have the latest drivers for it, if it's not class compliant. also make sure it's connected correctly:

In the Audio Devices is my synthisizer going to show as "built-in input"
I have only the midi out plugged in on the keyboard then plugged in via usb to macbookpro.

no, a MIDI interface is not an audio device, GB will simply show "1 MIDI Device Detected" (or something close to that)
GB does say "1 midi device detected"

How come when i bang on the keyboard nothing happens???
Interface that im using "hosa tech--tracklink" says pluga nad play....no drivers required...

did you check the wiring as descripbed above? did you create a software track?
Yes i checked the wiring and it appears to be correct.
Not sure how to create a software track. GB is new to me. I am trying to figure it out though.

choose New Track from the Track menu

tried recording a few chords from the keyboard...nothing on playback.
if you've followed everything mentioned then the most likely answer is that the interface is not compatible with Mac OS X, or at least the version you have running. you may need to check with the manufacturer.

Tracklink box says compatible with OS 10.3.9 or later. I'm running 10.6.7

Ok...got it to work. Found some instructions on the Hosa site. I had to connect the usb and midi in the audio midi setup....simple if you know what your doing!!
This might help me with a similar problem. Where did you "connect" the usb and midi? Is the Audio MIDI setup a GB or Mac location? Or was it in the Hosa software?Thanks!
Mac location....Go to utilities and then the Audio MIDI Setup. Then go to the window dropdown and choose "show the midi window. This was not showing for me and the reason it took awhile to figure out. For my interface I had to click on add device and then drag the USB and new device connections together. Then i finally had a connection.. Hope this helps
One more thing. I did have my wires backwards as well. I have both an IN and OUT with my interface. The IN on the controller goes to the OUT on the keyboard and the OUT on the controller goes to the IN on the keyboard......
