I left my laptop at the office, which is also my parents' house over the weekend. How can I know if someone else had used it while I was gone? Is there a log somewhere I can read or check?

Go to Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities and find the application Console. Launch it. In the left hand pane, find and select system.log. Like this:
I blanked all the entries for mine before posting, but you should be able to scroll to the bottom of the list in the main pane and see dates and times when the computer was started in the last few days.
Open /Utilities/Console and click 'All Messages' top left, that will show the last time it was Booted or woken from sleep (and anything else that might have happened)
If you're concerned about unauthorised access then set a password on your admin account and only leave the Guest active (or none)
Console.app and check your browser(s) history.
