Image Capture cannot see anything

Image capture no longer sees my iPhones (3GS, 4) and my digital camera. I've been using Image Capture for the last 4 years. Now it says "No camera or scanner detected". It doesn't make a difference if I (1) open Image Capture, then insert the cable in USB port, (2) the other way around, or (3) have Image Capture open automatically when I plug in the USB.

The USB ports are OK since they works with everything else: iTunes see the iPhones, card readers mount fine on the screen, and iPhoto sees the iDevices. (So I can put photos on the computer, but I like using Image Capture rather than iPhots to import photos - mainly because I do not want everything I import to end up in the Photo Libtary).

Two things happened since last time I used Image capture

1. I upgraded to 10.6.7

2. I installed iPhoto 11.

(Is it possible that one of these things crippled Image Capture?)

Thanks in advance
