Question:

Question: question mark on keyboard

i have new mac with a keyboard that is wired. the keyboard is set to US but i can't access many of the symbols on the keyboard including questionmark. i have not been able to find "change keyboard" under System Preferences, keyboard - can't use forward slash, cant use greater than or lesser than. help

iMac, brand new imac core i7

nah, its not that. i'm having the same problem a fellow had back in nov. i just read that thread. my keyboard is set wrong and i can't follow apple's advice to `'change keyboard`' through system preferences as the `'keyboard assistant`' is not appearing. `i'm going to ask the experts at apple tomorrow. thanks

Go to System Preferences -> Language & Text -> Input Sources, then enable 'Keyboard & Character Viewer' in addition the languages that should be available. With this you get an icon in the menu bar. Click it and select 'Show Keyboard Viewer' to display an onscreen keyboard. Compare this with your actual keyboard.

It's really not clear from your description whether you need to change your "keyboard type" or just make sure the "input source" has been set correctly and uniquely in Language & Text preferences. For "keyboard type" issues, which seem pretty unlikely in your situation, this may help:
