Isight and bluetooth both do not work at all. Tried all solutions but no luck so far. Both do not appear in the system preferences as well. Please help.

Need Help. I have Apple Macbook Pro 15" 2.53 Ghz intel based with 4 GB ram with builtin isight. My builtin isight camera and bluetooth both are neither working nor appearing in the system preferences. I tried all the solutions mentioned in different forums but so far with no luck. Please help me to resolve this issue. I am frustrated now.

Please detail all you have done to resolve your issue. Need this information so that the users can avoid the "been there, done that" scenario type responses. This is to avoid repeating the troubleshooting you may have already tried. Thank you.

Your bluetooth problems should be posted HERE.

Hi,

To continue Baby Boomer's points....

Exactly where were you expecting to find the Camera in System Preferences ?

It only appears or rather can be accessed in System Preferences > Accounts > (Any account) > Change Pic and taking a Snapshot for Account Pic.

Are we talking about this Blue Tooth camera?

This has a Mic and should appear in System Preferences > Sound > Input

As well as telling us what you have done so far it would be useful to know in both items show in the System Profiler ?

Dear Ralph,

I have tried the following:

  • I tried application like iChat and PhotoBooth to check my built-inisight camera but it does not even appear in those applications.(A crossappears on the Movie camera icon)
  • I had Leopard installed on my computer.I erased the Macintosh drive and installed a fresh OSX Snow Leopard
  • I have not tested my isight camera in another user account as Iam the only user and administrator.
  • Checked System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside theApplications folder). Under the USB header. Isight camera is not detected.
  • 5. I reset my computer's SMC and checked the System Profiler again. It is still not there.

Before Resetting the SMC

Itried:

  • Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit anyapplication.
  • Put my Mac to Sleep.Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
  • Restart my Mac
  • Shut down my Mac

Butnothing happened.

I am talking about built-in isight camera and Bluetooth(two different things). Please help to resolve my Bluetooth and isight issue as I amgetting sick of it.

Hi,

I will reply to this post that was made at 18 mins past whatever hour it was where you are.

If the Blue Tooth is any Blue Tooth item and you have tried turning it on In System Preferences AND there is the an issue with "Seeing" the camera in the System Profiler > Hardware > USB - I would check the System Profiler again and see if Blue Tooth is missing here.

Also is the IR controller listed ? (Do you have a remote that makes Front Row work ?)

The Blue Tooth Controller is connected to the system via an Internal USB Connection just like the Camera Is.

I did ask this before.

The reason I deliberately linked to a Blue Tooth camera is that your original post made nothing clear.

In fact you posted this line:-

My builtin isight camera and bluetooth both are neither working nor appearing in the system preferences.

I asked where in System Preferences you expected to see anyhing regarding the camera and your relpy in this post I am relpying to seems to indicate System Profiler.

Am I, in fact, actually asking a question that you think you have already told us ?

Do you have any other USB devices connected to your computer ?

If so are they Unpowered devices ?

Technically the USB iSight camera and the controller/Blue Tooth connection in the computer will be "seen" as Unpowered devices as they will get their power from the USB connection and not a separate supply.

This may mean you have exceeded to limit of power that can be taken over the USB connections.

IF you do have USB peripheral devices I would Unplug them
Shut the computer down and wait 15 mins (If you have a laptop also unplug the power)

Does the Camera and Blue Tooth show up in the System Profiler now ?

Have you tried a Safe Boot ?

I have a second User Account on my Mac just for testing things

It is actually called Test.

It doesn't take very long to create a new account and it would be worth checking the same app whilst logged in to a second account.

(If my guess is that you meant System Profiler before was right, then I expect the camera and Blue Tooth will not show up in the other account as well)

If the camera and Blue Tooth and "Missing" from System Profiler and you have tried Safe Boot, SMC/PMU reset and the Power down with no external USB Devices for 15 mins then it is possible you have a failure of a USB Controller and will need to make an appointment at a Store or Repair Centre to have it fixed.

If you have AppleCare, give them a call. If not, take the computer to your local Apple Store or AASP. This way the repair techs will run diagnostic tests to confirm what is wrong.

(10.6.6)

Use Software Update to update your OS to last version of Snow Leopard. Install all the other updates that goes along w/it. Repair permissions and restart your computer.

It should either be something that you can "Fix" using the SMC/PMU reset or a trip to a Apple Authorised Service Provider or a Store should at least inform you of what is wrong.

As to an actual Repair it will depend on what is wrong and what Apple decide is the best course of action.

A loose cable from a USB Controller would be an easy job.

If a USB controller has failed then a Motherboard replacement would probably be the thing to do as many of the small components may not stand the excesses of manually unsoldering and resoldering parts on to the board.

The thing to do is find out what is exactly wrong and what that may cost.

Then you can make an informed decision.

The number of threads in any Forum only represent the small percentage of people that get problems. (it may seem like the poster are all complaining about the same things)

The iSight area is a very very small part of the Apple Support Communities.

Laptops have been outselling desktops for a number of years.

Out of millions of computers sold the threads here dealing with issues about an iSight are miniscule.

Many of those are solved with the SMC/PMU "Fix"
