It means that for an unspecified reason the MAS was not able to fulfill what you wanted it to do. It could have been caused by the MAS servers, by your ISP or perhaps a fault on your end. Who knows, it is unspecified.
Have you tried again after the passing of some time?
First of all, thank you for your response. I have been getting this response for quite some time and I have tried restarting and such but to no avail. I think someone downloaded it to my mac using their own itune account and now I cannot download it using mine :S
I cannot uninstall it because it doesn’t show on my purchases and I cannot install it because it is technically installed, and it is refusing I download it using my account.
This is what I am making out of this situation so far.
To uninstall the app drag it from your Apps folder to the Trash.
Unfortunately it does not show in my app folder, and I tried app zapper and that too failed.
You don't have to uninstall the MAS.
Simply go to 'Shop' in the top menu and log out. Then close the MAS and reopen it. Log in again and voila!
(It worked for me 😀 )
You should be able to download any app trouble free now. If you still have problems, reboot your Mac.
